Christ Church is one of the defining buildings of the conservation area. It was built by public subscription for the people of Southgate with the help of the Walker family. It is important not only to church members but to everyone in and around the conservation area. Players on the Walker Grounds, passers-by, children at school and all the people who live, work and pass through the conservation area are familiar with its spire and the sound of its bells. .
Christ Church was designed by Gilbert Scott and contains the work of a number of artists in the design of its stained glass windows and painted chapel including William Morris, Edward Burne-Jones, Dante Gabriel Rosetti and Ford Madox Brown.
